Exemptions
 

EXEMPTION DEADLINES:

FALL SEMESTER: September 28, 2012
WINTER SEMESTER: January 18, 2013


All full-time students, both undergraduate and graduate, registered to the University of Ottawa will be automatically charged for the U-Pass Program, except students who live in the STO area of service. However, there are some students that may qualify for an exemption.

Please note that exemptions from previous years do not carry over.

 

Possible exemptions:

“I reside outside the OC Transpo area of service for the duration of the school year.”

NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION:

  • A current rental agreement or lease OR
  • A driver's licence OR
  • A current utility bill with your name, your address and the date

“I am participating in an exchange program outside of Canada for a minimum of 60 days during the fall semester and/or during the winter semester.”

NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION:

  • A letter of acceptance with your name along with the dates and location of the exchange, OR
  • A letter of confirmation from the person in charge of your exchange with your name, the location, and the dates of your exchange

“I am participating in a cooperative work program outside the city of Ottawa for a minimum of 60 days during the fall semester and/or during the winter semester.”

NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION:

  • No proof necessary

   

“I am participating in an internship outside the city of Ottawa for a minimum of 60 days during the fall semester and/or during the winter semester.”

NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION:

  • International internship:
    • No proof necessary
  • Internship within Canada, but outside the city of Ottawa:
    • A letter of acceptance with your name along with the dates and location of the internship, OR
    • A letter of confirmation from the person in charge of your internship along with the dates and location of the internship

“I am conducting research outside the city of Ottawa for a minimum of 60 days during the fall semester and/or during the winter semester.”

NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION:

  • A letter from your thesis or research supervisor confirming that you are indeed doing research outside the city of Ottawa for a minimum of 60 days during the fall semester and/or during the winter semester

“I am a member of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.”

NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION:

  • Your CNIB identification card

“I have dropped down to part-time, or am no longer registered as a student at the University of Ottawa.”

NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION:

  • No proof necessary

 

If you are eligible, you must submit an exemption form along with the necessary supporting documentation before the deadline in order to receive a reimbursement.

If you have already received your 2012/2013 U-Pass card, you must attach it to the application in order to be eligible for an exemption.

There will also be blank forms available at the SFUO Main Office (UCU 07) until the deadline.
